Microsoft Viva Adoption Health: How M365Clarity Scores Your Deployment

Microsoft Viva is one of the most underutilised parts of a Microsoft 365 E3 or E5 subscription. Organisations pay for Viva Engage, Viva Learning, Viva Connections, and more — then wonder why employees aren't using them, or assume everything is fine because the licences are assigned.

M365Clarity's Viva Adoption tab changes that. It reads your live tenant configuration via the Microsoft Graph API, grades each Viva workload individually, and generates an AI-powered adoption health narrative — all from a single scan.

What workloads are assessed

M365Clarity checks six Microsoft Viva and collaboration workloads as part of the Viva Adoption analysis:

🗣 Viva Engage (formerly Yammer)

Checks whether Viva Engage is configured and active in your tenant. Viva Engage is the enterprise social layer — without it, there's no company-wide communication channel outside of Teams channels and email distribution lists.

📚 Viva Learning

Assesses whether Viva Learning is enabled and connected to learning content sources. A Viva Learning deployment with no content sources connected shows employees an empty library — effectively useless.

🏠 Viva Connections

Checks whether Viva Connections is configured as the employee experience gateway in Teams. Viva Connections brings together news, tasks, and resources in a single Teams tab — organisations that skip configuration see no benefit from the licence.

📢 Viva Amplify

Assesses Viva Amplify configuration. Viva Amplify is the internal communications publishing tool — used by comms teams to write once and publish across email, SharePoint, and Teams simultaneously. Requires SharePoint and Exchange to be properly configured first.

🎯 Viva Goals

Checks whether Viva Goals is active. Viva Goals brings OKR (Objectives and Key Results) tracking directly into Teams. It's one of the newer Viva workloads and frequently overlooked even by organisations using the rest of the suite.

🔄 Microsoft Loop

Assesses whether Microsoft Loop is enabled for the tenant. Loop allows real-time collaborative workspaces that embed across Teams, Outlook and Office. Frequently disabled by IT teams who haven't reviewed the governance implications — but leaving it disabled means employees can't use one of Microsoft's key productivity investments.

How workloads are graded

Each workload receives a letter grade based on its configuration status from the scan:

A Configured — workload is enabled and set up correctly

The workload is active in the tenant and M365Clarity detected no configuration gaps. Employees can use it.

C Needs attention — licensed but configuration gaps exist

The workload is licensed but M365Clarity found a configuration gap — for example, Viva Learning with no content sources, or Viva Connections not pinned in Teams.

F Not configured — workload not set up or not licensed

The workload is not configured. Either the licence isn't assigned or the feature hasn't been set up.

The AI adoption health narrative

After grading each workload, M365Clarity generates an AI adoption health assessment using Claude, grounded in your actual scan results. The narrative covers:

An overall adoption risk level (low, medium, high, or critical)
A one-sentence headline summarising your Viva deployment health
A 2–3 sentence narrative explaining what the gap means for employee experience
Per-workload insights with specific next steps
Prioritised recommendations scored by effort (low, medium, high)

Example output: "3 of 5 licensed Viva workloads are correctly configured. Viva Learning is enabled but has no content sources connected, meaning employees see an empty library. Viva Connections has not been pinned in Teams — it exists but no one will find it. Recommendation: connect at least one learning content source (SharePoint is free) and pin Viva Connections in the Teams app setup policy. Effort: low."

The narrative is generated from your data, not generic advice. If your tenant has Viva Engage at grade A and everything else at grade F, the narrative reflects that specific situation — not a template for a fictional average tenant.

Why this matters for licence ROI

Microsoft 365 E5 includes most of the Viva suite at no extra cost. Many organisations discover they've been paying for Viva workloads for months or years without a single employee benefiting. The Viva Adoption tab makes that visible in under a minute.

For MSPs, the Viva Adoption narrative is a straightforward way to demonstrate value during a quarterly business review. Showing a client that three workloads they're paying for are unconfigured — with specific steps to fix it — is a tangible deliverable that doesn't require a separate project to produce.

Note: Viva Adoption analysis requires at least one Viva workload to be present in the tenant's licence. If no Viva features are detected, the tab will show a "no Viva licences found" state rather than generating an empty assessment.

How to access it

Viva Adoption is available under Productivity → Viva Adoption in the M365Clarity dashboard sidebar. It's a Pro plan feature. Click "Generate Viva Adoption Assessment" on first open — results are cached per scan and regenerate automatically after a rescan.
