Microsoft 365 health reporting for MSP clients — automated, accurate, billable

The Microsoft 365 monthly health report is one of those tasks that sounds simple in principle and is painful in practice. For each client you visit their tenant in the Microsoft 365 admin centre, check Secure Score, look at a few key settings, export a report or take screenshots, write up findings in plain English, format the document, and send it. For one client this takes 2–3 hours. Across 20 clients it's a significant portion of your team's monthly capacity.

Most MSPs either produce these reports too infrequently to catch problems before they become incidents, or they charge a line item that clients don't clearly value because the report's connection to outcomes isn't explicit. Neither outcome serves the client or the commercial relationship well.

What a useful client health report contains

A report that clients pay for and read is different from a report that proves you ran some checks. An IT audience wants to know what's configured and what isn't. A business owner wants to know what could go wrong and how likely that is given their current configuration. The most valuable structure: a health score that lets clients compare across time, the two or three most significant findings in plain English with business impact, what changed since the last report, and a clear recommended action with an effort estimate.

The multi-tenant challenge

The tools Microsoft provides are designed for single-tenant administration. There's no native way to see a cross-client view of health scores, find which clients have the most critical findings, or identify a configuration pattern affecting multiple clients simultaneously. Microsoft 365 Lighthouse is Microsoft's answer — it's useful for basic oversight but has significant limitations: a fraction of the checks a thorough assessment should cover, limited reporting, no AI-generated narrative, and no mechanism for generating client-facing documentation.

How M365Clarity approaches MSP reporting

M365Clarity's MSP tier connects all your client tenants under a single portfolio. Each client gets their own isolated scan results — no cross-client data leakage, complete separation. From the portfolio view you see every client's health score, grade, red and amber finding counts, and last scan date in a single dashboard.

1
Connect client tenants
Each client goes through the standard Microsoft OAuth consent flow. Share a link with the client's Global Admin, they authenticate and consent to read-only access, and the tenant appears in your portfolio. Alternatively, if you have GDAP access, you can use your own credentials with the appropriate roles.
2
Schedule weekly scans
M365Clarity can scan all connected tenants on a weekly schedule. You receive a digest email when any client's configuration changes — specific findings that appeared, improved, or resolved since the last scan.
3
Generate the client narrative
For each client, M365Clarity generates an AI-written client narrative — a plain-English account of the client's current posture, what changed this month, and what the priority actions are. Grounded in the actual scan results for that tenant, not a generic template.
4
Deliver a white-label PDF
The Executive Briefing PDF can include your company logo. Upload it once in MSP Account settings and it appears on every client briefing you generate. The resulting document looks like it came from your consultancy, not a third-party tool.

The portfolio-level view

Beyond per-client reporting, the portfolio view gives you cross-client intelligence that's hard to produce any other way. The AI risk ranking orders your clients by severity and breadth of findings — surfacing the client who most urgently needs attention. Cross-tenant pattern detection identifies configuration issues affecting multiple clients simultaneously, which often indicates a systematic gap in your onboarding process or a Microsoft change that affected a specific licence tier.

The renewal conversation: M365Clarity generates a Pre-Renewal Briefing for clients approaching licence renewal — showing what to drop, what to add, potential cost savings, and a partner brief draft you can share before the renewal meeting. This turns a commercial conversation into a consultative one, which is significantly more valuable to the client and to the relationship.
